Poundland deployment of VT100 body camera has decreased store violence and theft
CSE Crosscom and Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) today announced that Poundland, which operates as Dealz across the U.K., has rolled out Motorola Solutions’ VT100 body cameras to staff at 177 stores. Since beginning the VT100 deployment, Poundland has seen a decrease in reported incidents, with violence against staff falling by 11%, alongside a marked reduction in shoplifting and theft, helping to contribute to a safer environment for staff and customers.
“At Poundland, we have a very simple mission, to provide great value to our customers, care for our colleagues and protect the pounds,” said Dan Hayward, National Profit Protection Manager at Poundland. “The new body cameras allow us to achieve all of these aims, helping us create a safer in-store environment and reduce inventory loss.”
“Not only do the VT100 body cameras provide an effective visual deterrent, but they are also proving to be an important tool for de-escalating in-store incidents. The cameras are definitely having a positive impact on the overall in-store experience” Adam Starkey, Investigations Manager, said.
Following a successful pilot of the technology, the company has also benefited from improved evidence gathering, enabled by the VT100’s ability to capture an objective record of events, providing Poundland’s Security and Loss Prevention teams with the information they need to conduct investigations.
Alongside the VT100 devices, Poundland is using the VideoManager digital evidence management solution to prepare, store and process video data, and to tag videos so that they can be matched with CCTV footage and other incident data.
“For our retail customers, a safer environment for staff and shoppers underpins everything they do” said Vivienne Francis, Vice President EMEA Channel, Motorola Solutions. “The VT100 empowers security teams with the information they need to act quickly and decisively to protect their colleagues, customers and stores.”
“We were delighted to support Poundland with this deployment of body worn video across their stores in the UK and Ireland” said Daniel Frith, Sales Director at CSE Crosscom. “The early results of the rollouts speak for themselves and we’re looking forward to growing and building our working relationship with the Profit Protection team at Poundland.”

The British Retail Consortium reported in its latest Crime Survey that UK shop workers now face 1,300 incidents of violence and abuse every day, up 50% on the previous year. In April, the government announced a retail crime crackdown to combat the issue, which includes investments in new technology to prevent shoplifting and proposed legislation to make assaults on shop workers a standalone criminal offence in England & Wales.
