State-of-the-Art Radio System For Iconic London Store

CSE Crosscom is proud to have been chosen by Fortnum & Mason – world famous purveyor of exceptional food – to provide two-way radio communications and body worn video cameras to support operations and security at its iconic Piccadilly store.

Every year millions of people from all around the world visit Fortnum & Mason’s flagship store in Piccadilly. Ensuring the security of visitors and employees and protecting this iconic London institution is essential.

John McCreadie, Head of Security approached CSE Crosscom to discuss migrating from the existing analogue two-way radio system at Fortnum & Mason to a digital system and extending the coverage of the system beyond the original building to cover extensions and related environs.

Security was the main driver for upgrading the two-way radio system, integrating communications with a new CCTV system and monitoring both in a purpose built Security Operations Centre , but the system is also designed to support maintenance, warehousing, housekeeping and management functions.

Having surveyed the site and understood Fortnum and Mason’s requirements, CSE Crosscom proposed a system using Motorola Solutions MOTOTRBO™ DP4601e digital radios and TRBOnet software, which delivers a wealth of advanced features to provide for security and health and safety and improve operational efficiency, including:
• Emergency Alerting. By simply pressing a dedicated button on the radio any user can raise an alert in the control room to request assistance.
• Job Ticketing. Using the system, tickets can be raised for maintenance and cleaning teams to allocate tasks. Once the task has been completed this can also be logged on the system providing a full audit trail.
• Voice Recording. The system can record voice communications for training and accountability.
• Mobile Integration. Using the licence based TRBOnet app enables mobile users in the management team to connect with the radio system.
• Integration. In the control room TRBOnet could be integrated with both the CCTV system and also the Reveal body worn cameras that CSE Crosscom has also supplied.

The infrastructure required to support the system – antennas and repeaters – was installed out of hours to minimise disruption to the business and inconvenience to the store’s customers.

To accommodate Fortnum and Mason’s specific security requirements the TRBOnet software runs on a virtual server on Fortnum & Mason’s cloud system rather than a hosted server. Working in this way ensures the required servers are consistently updated in line with Fortnum & Mason’s security policy, while CSE Crosscom engineers are able to install and configure software remotely and securely on the system.

The CSE Crosscom system is supplied to Fortnum & Mason under a long term rental contract as a managed service, enabling budgeting as OPEX rather than CAPEX and providing the peace of mind of being able to upgrade to take advantage of future advances in technology and changing requirements.
